Added 6/24/24 - I am very happy with the new split A/C unit that was installed today. The technicians, Rob F., Ryan K. and Luke, where very polite, very professional and very neat. Everything was thoroughly explained, and all features were demonstrated. This was scheduled as a 2-day job but was done in 1 day with excellent results. I have used McVay Plumbing for years and am very happy that they have branched out to A/C & Heating as well as Electric. Now, I will use them for all of these needs!

In June 2025, I was informed by my Township that I had a broken pipe from my home into the main road that was going to require us to pay for the repair. I called McVay and they came and tried 2 different approaches before the really expensive one of digging up the road. In the end, the road did need dug up and we did need to pay for the repairs, but McVay worked diligently through alot of red tape and was able to come in $15,000 under the estimate. I'd definitely recommend them!

I have a very long older water line that sprang a leak. McVays was sent by my insurance company. Tracey, their scheduler was quick to respond to get the fix moving. Josh showed up early in the morning for repair. He did a great job repairing. Unfortunately, within a few hours, another leak farther down the yard was noticed. Tracey was, once again, quick to respond and sent a crew to respond. Although it was after hours now, Josh, Mike, and Mark showed up for the fix. You couldn't ask for a more pleasant and caring crew. It was now after sunset, Mark filled the line back in with the excavator. Next day, I checked my yard. No leaks! Yard had minimal damage despite the long line that was dug through it! I highly recommend this company and would not hesitate in using them again!

Truck was blocked a portion of thier posted work zone . The workers saw someone in the truck earlier that morning and didn’t say anything and also a neighbor told them which house the truck belonged too. McVAY = VERY IMPRESSIVE! The buyer's sewer line inspection revealed 2 breaks. These required repair. Through the estimating process the fact that this was a CSL, a sewer line shared between 2 or more neighbors, came to light, not uncommon for Pittsburgh. Further revealed, there was no housetrap. In spite of these and other complexities, the estimate was presented with full confidence in the repair which offered minimal digging, installation of a whole house trap, new PVC fittings, and 35 ft of 6” diameter cured-in-place liner. Shout out to Adam! Well done on the estimate of work! All of the technicians I met on the job were personable, helpful, hard working and …impressive. The McVay team managed the inspection process with Allegheny Health Department Plumbing Inspections seamlessly. All the work was done in a timely manner as various crews were brought in for each stage of the process. The site supervisor was not satisfied with the quality of the finish work, the height of the fixtures protruded above the poured concrete sidewalk by an unacceptable margin. Chris wouldn't sign off on the job until that was made right. It was made right. Way to go Chris! That’s the kind of contractor team I want to work with. A team that makes sure the work is done right before walking off the job.

There was one little hiccup at the end in my opinion. Even as of 1 hour before the sale closing, I had not heard from anyone who could verify for me how the final inspection video clearly demonstrated that the repairs of the two breaks in the line were actually accomplished. It was as though the McVay team thought this was intuitive or that I should simply trust them because they said it was so. The AGHD inspection simply proved that it met county requirements for what was installed; it didn’t guarantee that actual repairs were made. (It’s a very odd process actually, IMO.) Finally…Jake got on the phone with me and walked me through the repair inspection video so that I could have full confidence that I was offering the buyer of my property a verifiably fully repaired sewer line. Way to go Jake!

So that’s my one suggestion for the McVay team. Please consider having a “closer” on hand at the end of the process, someone who is familiar with the project and can explain exactly how the work done met the needs of the project. Perhaps it should even be Adam, the estimator?

For the potential client in need of sewer line repair, working from sewer line scope videos with their unreliable foot counters is very challenging. It is not easy to figure out what’s going on underground from these. I found McVay easy to work with and amenable to being held accountable for their work and to my satisfaction. Adam was a great guy. Called and helped us troubleshoot the problem over the phone and it turned out to be such an easy fix. His years of experience were key. He knew exactly what to tell us to do and even came out to make sure we were good to go even though we were able to fix it over the phone. Then was kind enough to not charge for his time. Bottom line is when you get up in the morning and you notice sewage creeping up into things you shouldnt have on the floor, you freak out. Then you call the only company you have ever dealt with hoping they can help today. I called McVay and the first person said he would put me on the list. Ten minutes later a young lady called and said the have someone that can be there shortly. I was feeling pretty good about that. Then almost immediately the plumber called and gave me a specific time that he would be here and he was. A short time later after he determined the problem was in my main line he jetted and snaked and everything let go and was back to normal. So within a two hour period my freaking out was reduced to appreciation for the company, the office people and the technician. I recommend them for this kind of work and for everything they do. I think they have a good company with good people and they are probably good at all of it.

Excellent communication every step in the process. Approximate 200 foot sewer line needed work to pass a dye test for our Township. McVay worked with our Sewer Line Insurance company to ensure that Insurance paid their part and we paid only what the policy stated was our part of the work. McVay did a wonderful job, including backfilling the work done in our yard to complete the job. From the various specialized workers and teams, to the office staff and supervisor, all treated us with respect and explained every step along the way.
McVey should be everyone's go to company for all their sewer, plumbing, heating and cooling needs. Give them a call in the future, you will not be disappointed. We plan on using McVay for all our needs that their company offers, no need to call anyone else!

Randy from McVay came out to investigate and open our main sewer line which was backing up into our basement. We previously had another company come out 2 weeks prior to do the same. At that time they snaked the drain and removed some roots. But the problem persisted and we we're still getting sewage backup.

Randy arrived on time and prepared. He couldn't of been more professional or knowledgeable. You could instantly tell he knew what he was doing and talking about. We were originally slated to have the line snaked again with a camera inspection this time to find the root of the issue. After explaining our situation Randy suggested hydrojetting the line instead. He explained that while it was more expensive it was also more reliable with getting rid of roots in the pipe than snaking it. I took his advice and chose this service instead.
Randy took the time to show and explain everything in full detail while he was working. Pointing out the problem areas in our pipe as he discovered them. Ultimately he discovered 2 areas of the pipe with root growth. As he said the hydrojetting completely pulverized the roots. Through further camera inspection it was clear that now that the line was free of roots completely.

He explained that the roots would come back without a doubt. It was just a matter of time. He laid out all of our future options and potential costs. Took the time to provide and explain a quote.
Randy really made me feel as if he was there to help and inform me. Not just check a box on his call sheet. By far the best experience I've ever had with a plumber. He did a phenomenal job from start to finish. Highly recommend!

They performed a full camera scope of the sewer line and were extremely thorough, finding four areas of damage on the main line and providing a detailed 9-minute video before leaving. They explained everything clearly, educated me on what’s there, what’s happening, and gave helpful advice on next steps.

On top of that, they even helped fix a stuck shark bite on an outdoor spigot (completely unrelated to the visit) and didn’t charge for it. Thankfully we were and we only had to dig up a two foot square hole in our basement floor rather than 47 feet. I had a drop water system installed and I am happy with my purchase. My sales rep and installation team 5/5+. The unit itself was just a bit slow off the line 4/5. I had a weird odor when we first ran it, I had to run the regen cycle 4 times and now we have odorless soft water that feels amazing.

The price for the unit and features that I picked was close to $1,000 less than competitive bids - I had 3 other companies come out. The sales rep was friendly and informative without being pushy - one competitor used health "scare tactics".

The install team also fixed a small thing unrelated to the install that we had discovered during the bid process that I had intended to replace myself, but hadn't got around to yet. I will definitely use McVay again.

We chose McVay over several other HVAC companies to install our new Bryant furnace/ heat pump system a month ago because of their association with Lowes and because of their excellent online ratings. Everything went like clockwork, installation was mostly done in 1 day. Unit seems to be working well, much quieter than its 25 year old predecessor. Communication with the company ( email text and voice) has been excellent although their AI answering service is a little too realistic. When the current free one year maintenance plan included with the purchase expires we plan to enroll in the McVay prepaid home maintenance program (HVAC, plumbing and electrical) on a yearly basis. Technicians have been friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. Worth 5 stars.

Technician was very professional and courteous. McVay put my furnace in over 20 years ago when they were still Arendosh, it is still running and they have serviced it ever since. I have never had a problem with their courtesy and professionalism. I only thought the parts were overpriced, but I wanted OEM parts and that’s just Trane. I would recommend McVay to anyone. Just that it was over $800 for a blower motor and $1600+ total bill for the motor and a high efficiency filter.

I had my first service with McVay Plumbing Company,, The serviceman Josh arrived right on time, he was very thorough, knowledgeable and polite. I moved here from New York in February in our new home, we had an oil burner with a water heater attached. In NY I’ve never had natural gas and an electric water heater,, Josh was thorough in explaining all the differences between the two and if I wanted to replace my electric water heater down the road, he gave me all the information I would need he was very helpful,

Then after he left, Mike came to do the check on my HVAC , Heating and electric. He also was a very knowledgeable and polite young man. He was very thorough and like MIKE. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything he was doing, he also explain A filtration system on my AC, that goes inside the house, .he explained about everything I need to know about that system..

At this time I have only pros no cons.to report.
I was very impressed with their whole services , I highly recommend them.

This was my first sewer backup, and I was so glad to get such quick help. Randy helped me calm down and explained the process. He was able to solve the problem from my front yard in a short time. I flushed the toilets and sent water from the kitchen sink while he watched down that pipe in the front yard and everything was good. My tankless water heater went out this week, and McVay Plumbing, Heating & Cooling was an absolute lifesaver! I called them Tuesday afternoon, and they originally scheduled someone to come out Wednesday morning for an estimate. Not long after, they called me back and let me know they could send a technician out that same evening, talk about great service!

Nick was the technician who came out, and he was awesome! Nick was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The next day, Nick and Chris came back to install my new tankless water heater, and they did a fantastic job! They were right on time, very polite, and kept me informed throughout the entire process. Everything was done efficiently and neatly, and they made what could have been a stressful situation completely easy.

I can’t recommend McVay Plumbing, Heating & Cooling enough, especially Nick and Chris! If you need prompt, professional, and friendly service, this is the company to call!

Top-notch experience with the McVay crew in lining and replacing portions of my sewer line in a major project. Every single person I encountered from the company was friendly, honest, knowledgeable and professional. I'm a first-time, female homeowner and found out the hard way that some local plumbing and HVAC companies will really try to take advantage of your inexperience with predatory pricing, recommendations, etc (I.e. 2-3x price quoted by McVay and others). McVay quotes are reasonable--with financing options that are pretty easy to use--and they went the extra mile from day 1 to help me document my issues for securing homeowner's coverage. My adjuster in fact commented that the documentation they received from McVay was the best and most detailed they'd seen. This crew is who I'll be using for all issues going forward, although they did such a nice job on the sewer line that for that side of things I imagine I won't be needing their help ever again. Hoping to save folks the headache I endured in wasting time with other contractors ...just call these guys from the get-go!

Called for service on a Tuesday. They were available but suggested they come Thursday bc it wouldn’t be an off hours rate. We schedule an early Thursday time. That day, they pushed the original time to 3-330. Still no one here by 5. My wife took off the morning and I took off the afternoon to be here and they never showed. Terrible.

I called for an estimate to fix incorrectly installed HVAC equipment and ducting in a house we just purchased when we immediately found issues with heating and cooling it. They made me pay $70 and said that they would get that estimate to me as I had said that I need it to provide to a lawyer. They never did. I called about once a week for months. Still never got it. When I got fed up and asked for a refund since they didn't deliver an estimate they claimed "we can't even do an estimate" and claimed a message was left even though my phone call log has no record of a call or voicemail. She also said "we offered a mini-split installation" but they didn't even send me that. I would think that since they couldn't do an estimate and didn't send me anything that they would refund me, but the woman speaking to me kept shouting over me and when I asked her to stop interrupting me she hung up on me and then had my subsequent calls rebuffed. I finally got through to a different woman named Carrie and she was polite and understanding but also non-committal on even refunding me - something that I think is very reasonable given that I did not get what I specifically asked for and have been waiting for more than 2 months for. This is not how you do business and not how you treat customers. It is not working in good faith. This isn't working at a reasonable speed. You unfortunately cannot trust this business to do what you have paid them to do and for that I would give 0 stars if I could because that is the whole purpose a business exists to do. Take your business elsewhere.

So I went through American home jail this is one of the Plumbing services that they use I say Beware!!!!! They want to rush out of your house and barely check anything thoroughly. They came in my house for a leak from my toilet and I was told that my tub had cracks in it and it needed to be sealed. They discovered that in less than five minutes and I was charged $125. So I called American home shield told them that I was not satisfied with the advice they had given me so they had sent out five star air plumbing, and they diagnose the problem effectively. Do not use this plumbing service they are not qualified. They are lazy and they may have a biased decision with Black people. I said what I said!

Excellent job!! We had a toilet back up / broken pipe that turned into a much bigger issue. Needed a new sewer line if we didnt want further damage from the bathroom to connect with the main line leaving the house. Excavated in the bathroom, garage, the yard and walkway. Everything was completed very nicely and in a timely manner, all the while keeping me informed of what was going on with great communication. I would highly reccommend mcvay.
